The power of the furies is unleashed in The Furies of Calderon this First Book of a High Fantasy series by Jim Butcher. It sets the stage for what should be a very ambitious tale of magic, love, betrayal, and loyalty. What exactly are these furies? We shall delve into to find out.
The world created by Jim Butcher is well laid out in this novel. We are introduced to the world of the First Lord, and by that same token, we find that there are quite a few High Lords scheming against his rule. The way magic is portrayed through the use of fury is quite interesting, and the characters in this novel develop nicely throughout. One thing that can be is is that the book moves briskly and it engages the reader with a good amount of action which can be found in the opening sequences and this action, and kinetic energy does not let up through the book.
The Furies of Calderon is very a fun action-packed fantasy read with a curious concept of magic. One flaw I would say is that it is a very safe fantasy story the author does not take any genre-breaking risks and the point of view used is very traditional this is not necessarily a bad thing at all, but if you do not read Fantasy it will not change your mind. However, that being established it is a good opening as to what will hopefully be a strong series.
