Facebook: “The Juggernaut in social media” With billions of users it is a perfect place for an indie author of little to no means to get their work out there. It can help push your work forward, and it has a very powerful reach. Except that, on paper, it sounds wonderful but the truth it is not.
I had been on Facebook for almost a decade now. Only within the last year have I started to use Facebook for the purpose of Promoting my work… However, since I started to engage in promoting my work Facebook has done everything in their power to stifle me and ensure that I am unable to spread out my work… Heck, I have even spent some money on their advertising.. but this is not enough. What started as a way to democratize the arts and give those of modest means a fighting chance has become a greedy monster of Wall St. who when an author is making waves and trying to get their work out there they do everything in their power.
So yesterday, without warning, and without any provocation on my part, they decided to unilaterally disable my account permanently. Without any further warning or even the decency to give a reason. Nevermind all my pages on the network, personal photos, and real life connections. This to an indie author is devastating as I now have to rely on other forms of social media to continue to work at promoting my book and it cuts me off from billions of other users.
This is a warning to all indie authors out there. Be careful with Facebook. They despise us and what we do in trying to promote our craft. I urge everyone to share this article, make it go viral because everybody needs to know the truth about how Facebook tries to stop indie authors from succeeding.
